APO seeks clarity on modalities for RIIN

Angami Public Organisation (APO), apex body of the Angami communjity, has sought clarity from the state government on what was meant by the official notification issued on June 29,2019 for setting up the Register of Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland (RIIN) that was to serve as a master list of indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland.

This was stated in a joint release by APO president Dr.Kepelhousie Terhuja and secretary information & publicity Mrs.Neithono Sothu.

They said APO had deliberated at length on the proposed RIIN as per the government notification and concluded that there was need for further clarity over what was meant by “ List of Indigenous Inhabitant based on official records”.

APO said it endorsed the government notification dated April 28,1977 wherein the criteria for a person to qualify as indigenous inhabitant of Nagaland had been clearly spelt out for issuing Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate.

In the light of the above, the duo said APO held the view that proper modalities should be framed by the government before actual Register of Indigenous Inhabitant of Nagaland takes shape.

Further, APO also felt that the time frame of only 60 days to prepare and submit the list was “too limited” as this could hamper the proposed extensive survey work.

Therefore, Angami Public Organisation  has suggested that sufficient time should be given to prepare the list.
