Music maestro and two-time Oscar award winner, Dr. A.R. Rahman, who arrived in Nagaland to grace the closing function of the Hornbill Festival on December 10, Monday visited Kohima orphanage and destitute home.

AR Rahman said he was amazed to see the talented children, adding he was excited teach and exchange whatever knowledge was in store among the talented children. Rahman said he was really touched by the performance of the kids as they sang the song “welcome to the family’. He said this was real happiness when we visit a place like this and inspire the young talents.

He said the reason why he chose children was because they (children) have a future and they become the future leaders. “If we give them the right knowledge and support, they can help this country become better,” he added. It was also informed that around 20 children were selected from the orphanage to be part of AR Rahman’s Sunshine Orchestra.  Sunshine Orchestra is an ambitious project of AR Rahman Foundation to put an Indian symphony orchestra on the world map.  Earlier, adviser Task force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Theja Meru briefed AR Rahman about the orphanage.
