Arrenpong sports festival held

The 1st edition of Arrenpong Sports Festival was held on Tuesday at Yimli ground with MLA Dr. Imtiwapang Aier as the guest of honour.

The sports festival is being organised by AIT Laishir Telungjem (MALT) under the aegis Mokokchung District Sports Council (MDSC).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Imtiwapang said that games and sports are a means to usher in peace and unity amongst the people. Therefore, he urged the athletes to contribute towards the noble cause and be ambassadors of peace and unity. He also encouraged the athletes to aim high.

Earlier, short speeches were delivered by president, AIT Laishir Telungjem, Akumyanger, council chairman Aosadang Jamir and MDSC vice-president L Alemtemsu Longkumer. 

In futsal, Hooligans Club defeated Purajem Society 1-0 via tie breaker.

In sand volleyball, Tongpangkumba and Sarilepzung won the championship while Ochitemsu and Imkongyapang were declared runners-up

Odilemba won both titles of Mokokchung’s fastest bowler and Arrenpong open fastest bowler. His fastest delivery was 100 kph.

In Mopungchuket cross country run, Bipul Sadnami from Assam emerged as the winner in men’s category. He completed the 9 km race in 34.19 minutes. Tekanenba (Mokokchung) with 35.15 minutes came in second position while Rupam Bora (Assam) with a timing of 35.43 minutes finished third.

In the women’s 8 kms run, Tsungrempokla with a timing of 46.30 minutes came first while Throngtila (48.28 minutes) and Toshitula (52.3 minutes) came in second and third positions respectively.
