ASA sports meet underway in Kohima

The 47th meet of Angami Sports Association (ASA) got underway at new Astroturf football ground at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima on Thursday.

Advisor, youth resources and sports, Er. Zale Neikha, who graced the meet as special guest, said that PDA government has framed the “Nagaland Sports policy” which will be introduced shortly and expressed hope that it would benefit the sportspersons in the state. 

He also hoped that the new sports policy will generate interest among the youths.

Pointing out that Nagas tend to take sports very lightly, Neikha reminded the budding talents that in order to excel in sports they have to choose a discipline in which he or she was good at and according to his or her physique. 

He also told them that vigorous trainings with dedication, hardwork and perseverance was needed to achieve in sports.

Earlier, Meyieto Sachu, asst. games secy, ASA led the oath taking ceremony, welcome address was delivered Viliehu Nguzhu, president, ASA and the programme was chaired by Neiketouzo Kenguruse, vice president, ASA. 

The programme began with an invocation by Rev. Fr. Dr. Visosie-o Solomon Vizo.

The events of the meet are football for men and volleyball for men and women. Four units under ASA- Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA), Western Angami Sports Association (WASA), Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) and Chakhroma Sports Association (CSA) are vying for the championship title.

In the first football match for men, SASA defeated CSA 3-2, while WASA overcame NASA 4-2 in the second match. SASA will now take on WASA in the final match, and CSA will play against NASA for the third place on Friday.

The valedictory function on January 8 will be graced by Pfüduolhuo Kense, advisor, Nagaland Wrestling Association as guest of honour.
