Renewing its stand to tackle the demographic threat in the society, Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has informed that the union would be carrying out its first phase “non-local verification drive 2019” from June 20 till July 20 at ASU office, below AIR station, BOC Kohima.

ASU vice president and convenor ILP monitoring cell, Neitsietuo Norbert Mere in a press note sought the support and active participation of the denizens of Kohima district during the exercise, in order to avoid stray incidents of harassment to ILP holders by unofficial persons.

ASU categorically stated that the objective of such drive is to thwart invasion by illegal immigrants in the state and not to discriminate any Indian citizen possessing valid ILP.

In this regard, ASU also sought assistance from the state government in its initiative, while also inviting the district administration to work jointly in detecting and controlling the perils posed by the influx.

During the verification drive, ASU said following documents would have to be produced-- copy of Inner Line Permit (ILP), any of the following valid documents like-- Aadhaar card, voter ID, NRC certificates, PAN card, driving license, valid trade license and two recent passport size photos. Government servants and school teachers have been exempted from the drive, it added.

Keeping in mind the inconveniences that genuine citizens may face, ASU urged all citizens to cooperate so as to counter this threat collectively.
