ATMA conducts farming activities across the state

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been conducting various trainings, demonstrations, workshops and meetings for the benefit of the famers across the state.

Following are the reports. 

ATMA Chuchuyimlang block: ATMA Chuchuyimlang block, conducted training and demonstration on June 12 and 13 at Chuchuyimlang and Mongsenyimti village respectively. 

A press release from ATM, Chubaeinla Jamir, stated that on June 12, training on pest management on Fall Army Worm (FAW) and Integrated Nutrient Management was conducted at Chuchuyimlang village, where resource person was BTT convener and A.O, T. Mayang Longkumer. 

He shared about severity of FAW and its prevention and management techniques and demonstrated on usage of organic and chemical insecticides and pheromone traps and encouraged the farmers to report immediately to the authorities on the incidence of FAW. 

In another session, training on Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) was given by BTM, Aolemla Kichu, who explained on importance and components of INM and further encouraged farmers to adopt composting method to enhance soil fertility. 

The programme was chaired by ATM, Tangit Longkumer.

The release also stated that on June 13, training on management practices of Banana was conducted at Mongsenyimti village, where ATM, Chubaeinla Jamir, shared about cultivation practices and pest management on banana. 

Demonstration on intercropping practices of Soyabean and Maize was also conducted, where the farmers were acquainted on the benefits of intercropping and pest management techniques, the release stated. 

ATMA Kobulong block: ATMA, Kobulong block, Mokokchung conducted training for poultry farmers at Longjang village on June 11. 

A press release from ATMA Kobulong block stated that the training was held under the topic “Deep litter system of management in poultry”. 

Resource person for the training was BTT convenor, Dr. Sentila, where altogether 34 farmers attended. Free mineral mixtures and de-wormers were distributed to the farmers.

ATMA Tuensang: ATMA Tuensang Panso block conducted training-cum-awareness of army Fall Army worm (FAW) on  May 29, with ATM Vesapa as resource person at Yakao council hall.

A press release from ATMA Tuensang, BTM Panso block  Imenungba Ao stated that training on value addition was conducted with an aim to prevent the lost of food productivity with Ime, BTM as resource person on June 1. Kisan gosthi also was held on May 31, where the resource person ATM Kezhasalie spoke on the bio control agents on vegetable crops.

The second was followed by group discussion and field visitation where farmers shared their problems and various measures were provided by ATMA staff. Altogether 45 farmers attended the programme.

ATMA Longleng: Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Longleng organised farmer scientist interaction in collaboration with KVK Longleng on June 8, at KVK training hall. 

A press release from PD ATMA and DSO, Longleng Ngangshimeyu stated that the programme was chaired by Lanuakum, DPD Longleng and participants were farmer representatives from all the blocks.

During the interaction programme many topics on current year jhum cultivation were discussed. Grassy stunt virus of paddy transmitted by vector plant hopper and leaf roller of paddy were also reported from many villages.

The resource persons provided remedial measures to control the extent of damage through use of organic formulations and chemicals and their doses.

The participants requested the concerned department to look into the matter as infestation was going on beyond economic threshold level. Insecticides were distributed to the participants. The resource persons were SRF KVK Namei, and ACTO Agronomy KVK Dr. Roshan. 

Altogether 60 participants attended the programme including the officials from ATMA and KVK Longleng.

ATMA Ralan: ATMA Ralan block conducted Kisan Goshti programme on May 25, at Yanpha village. 

Block Technology Manager, Ralan Block, Chophabeni Kikon highlighted the various activities of ATMA carried out under the block. 

AFA, Yanren Patton from state agriculture department conducted the Kisan Goshti.

He discussed farmers’ problems, informed them about insects/diseases of different crops and advised them for use of suitable pest management practices in proper time. 

He emphasized the use of farm yard manure & green manures, practice crop rotation. 

The resource person also spoke about the benefits due to weather awareness and crop management done at the right time against adverse weather conditions. 

Various government schemes that are beneficial to the farmers were also discussed in the Goshti.

The programme ended with interaction between farmers and resource person.  

Altogether 70 farmers from Ralan Block and ATMAS officials attended the programme. 

ATMA Phek: ATMA Phek in collaboration with ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre organised a farmers training programme on May 29 under the theme “Paddy cum Fish Farming under Rainfed Condition in Nagaland”. A press release by ATMA Phek stated that the trainees were trained on various topics and disciplines like by resource persons, Scientist, Jyotish Barman (Fisheries) and SRF, Dr. Talimoa Mollier (Animal Husbandry).

Weather based advisory in Nagaland through SMS and farmer’s scientist interaction through social media were also taught to the farmers.

The resource person also gave a demonstrated on AI & transportation of the AI kits. The programme concluded with a visit to the ICAR Integrated Farming System Model. The team was led by fishery demonstrator, Phek, Dzuthoru Chotso. Altogether 16 farmers participated in the training programme.
