ATMA trains farmers, starts farm school

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kiphire, Longmatra block conducted training and demonstration programs on May 30 and June 4 at Longmatra village on the topic “Rainwater harvesting structure (Jalkund)” and “Air layering of litchi” with Longmatra block BTM, Moakumzuk as resource person.
A press release from ATMA Kiphire, Longmatra block stated that Moakumzuk demonstrated the step by step procedure to prepare Jalkund, pit size water accommodation, role of insecticides, cushioning of the pit and laying of silpaulin sheet for better utilization of water especially during off season in hilly areas. A banana farm school was also inaugurated at Longmatra village with Jurinthe as the farm teacher. A brief introductory training on methods to layer litchi was imparted with steps and procedures showing how good layering is done for trees to bear healthy fruits.
The program was chaired by ATM, Tsungrozen. Altogether 24 participants attended the program. Litchi saplings (Muzaffarpur variety) and hybrid maize seeds (HQPM-5) were distributed.
Jakhama Block: ATMA Jakhama Block on May 31 inaugurated a banana farm school at Kidima village, Jakhama block.
A press release from ATMA Jakhama block stated that BTT convenor, Wabang Lonkumer, spoke on the importance of banana cultivation, its origins and history and the status of India as the world’s largest producer of banana. Macü Tholre was made the farm school teacher and he also shared his experiences.
The program was chaired by ATM, Atuno Zinyü and vote of thanks was delivered by BTM, Jakhama block, Vimenuo Mere.
Later, a demonstration on integrated disease management of banana bunchy top disease was given by ATM, Tolovino Sale. ROBAN, a rodenticide, was also distributed among the farmers to control the rodent epidemic. 15 farmers and four ATMA functionaries attended the program.
