ATMAs conduct training on sustainable agriculture across the state

Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has been conducting trainings and demonstrations for farmers in various district blocks across Nagaland.

ATMA Chetheba block: ATMA Chetheba block, under Phek district, conducted training on the topic “Sustainable agriculture, intergrated pest management, deworming practices of back yard poultry and piggery” on July 7 and 8. 

A press release by ATMA Chetheba block, stated that resource persons were ATMs, Victoria Zaphu and Nuzo at Khulazu Bawe and Phuyoba. 

Farmer Award was presented to Sesayi, who was involved in production of tree tomato and large cardamom of Khulazu Bawe, while Group Award was presented to Kühu SHG of Chesezu Nasa for their exemplary achievement as a group working together for upliftment of women in the society. 

The resource person lauded the awardees for their hard work and encouraged to continue setting an example to people around. Two food security group and two farmers interest group were formed from three villages, namely K Bawe, K Basa, Phuyoba and a seed money of Rs. 10,000 each were handed over to each group. As such, four groups were mobilized during the training programme. 

ATMA Chizami block: ATMA Chizami block conducted various training and demonstrations from June 18 to 20 at Chizami village. 

A press release by ATMA Chizami block, stated that HO and BTT convenor, Senti Longchar provided training and demonstration on cultivation practices of French bean, and ATM, Mekrulou Mero, on fall army worm management and cultivation practices of hybrid paddy. BTM, Zevosenuo Rutsa issued awareness and use of giloy plant. 

Field day and awareness programme on COVID-19 was also conducted, where preventive essentials were provided to the farmers. In another session, best individual farmer award was awarded to Aloe and Kezu Kro SHG for best group. Inputs such as seeds, bio control agents and fertilizers were given to two SHGs and two FSGs.

ATMA Chunlikha block: ATMA Chunlikha block, Kohima conducted a demonstration programme on July 4 at Chunlikha village. A press release from ATMA Chunlikha block stated that, assistant technology manager Chunlikha block, Sinlo Khing was the resource person and demonstrated on various management practices of coffee plantation. 

Techniques on training and pruning, spacing between the plants, green manuring for soil enrichment, spotting nutrient deficiency plants, pest management and disease management were also covered. Five farmers attended the demonstration and biopesticides was also distributed. 

ATMA Chunlikha block, Likwenchu village: ATMA Chunlikha block also conducted training on poultry management at Likhwenchu village, with veterinary assistant surgeon Tseminyu block Dr. Gwathonlo Tsela as the resource person on July 7. He gave a brief explanation on the scope of poultry farming in India and about the various scientific methods of poultry farm management. He also encouraged the farmers to develop a well maintained poultry farm which could generate income as well as employment for the village. 9 farmers attended the training and antibiotic was also distributed to the farmers.

ATMA Chunlikha block at Sishunu village: ATMA Chunlikha block, Kohima conducted training on piggery management at Sishunu village with ATM Chunlikha block, Sinlo Khing as the resource person on July 8. 

He explained the various important points on rearing pig and farmers were advised to maintain hygienic environment and use antibiotics, timely vaccinations so as to prevent the pigs from diseases which could result in heavy loss. Proper feeding management was encouraged so as to maintain the body weight to feed ratio. Record keeping was also advised to manage the expenditure, income or loss from the farming. Altogether 16 farmers attended the training, antibiotics and deworming tablets was distributed.
