Autocross rally: Knock out round held

Roaring engines, screeching tyres, mud splattering, and the smell of gasoline lingering in the air were the order of the day as 50 motor rally drivers  from Northeast and other states flaunted their driving skills at the 4th edition of the Dimapur Motor Sports Club JK Tyre autocross rally  at Agri Expo on Friday.  
The motor rally held on Friday was the knock out round to select the fastest drivers who will vie for top honours at the final showdown on Saturday. The scrutiny round was held earlier on Thursday at the same venue. 
The autocross rally will culminate with the prize distribution on Saturday. Both rookies and professionals from Meghalaya, Manipur, Assam and Delhi competed in four categories, namely; upto 1100cc, above 1100cc to 1600cc, SUV, open class and rookie cup. 
Special invitees- commandant of 32 Assam Rifles, Col V S Pal and Major Vikuto flagged off the knock out round. Atoka Awomi, who had earlier put up a sterling show in the motor rallies in Mokokchung and Senapati in Manipur, also competed in the rally representing Dimapur Motor Sports Club. 
Speaking to Nagaland Post ahead of the rally, president of Dimapur Motor Sports Club, Atsung said motor sports have a future in Nagaland and it has attracted the younger generation and brought them closer. He added rookies have been a prominent feature in all the four editions and have shown immense interest.
Talking about the organizer, Dimapur Motor Sports Club, he said that the club consisted of drivers who have carved a niche for themselves and bagged almost all the prizes in the earlier two editions in Mokokchung and Senapati. 
He also added that Naga drivers have fared well in the motor rallies held earlier in the state.  
Talking about challenges faced by the sport in the state, Atsung said that it was mainly financial and logistics which he said needs improvement. He was however buoyed by the positive response from the public. 
Earlier, the special invitee Col V S Pal said that rains had made the conditions tougher for the drivers and the day would promise more adventure. The president of Dimapur Motor Sports Club also expressed his gratitude to the title sponsor, JK Tyres and co-sponsor Tata Nexon.
