Awareness campaign on consumer rights, food safety, food security, environment and street vendors was conducted at Kohima Law College (KLC), Kohima on September 16.

A press release from NVCO media cell stated that, president of NVCO and assistant professor of KLC, Kezhokhoto Savi said that this platform was an opportunity to highlight the importance of the consumer movement and the need to make the consumer aware of their rights and responsibilities.

He added that state government has to play a vital role for promoting welfare of consumers and protection of their rights. He pointed out how consumers faced various problems such as shortage of LPG, illegal collection of cash at Nagaland Police check-gates and highways, and backdoor appointments and various other corruptions.

He also highlighted the six consumer rights, namely right to safety, right to be informed, right to choice, right to be heard, right to seek redressal and right to consumer education. As far as redressal of the consumers’ grievances was concerned, Savi said one has to dial Nagaland State Consumer Helpline Toll Free No. 1800 – 345 – 3701 which is an alternate remedy mechanism before approaching either the district consumer disputes redressal forum or state commission or national commission.

The team of resource persons consisted of LL.B final year students of Kohima Law College (KLC) namely Asenla S Longkumer, Teisozelhou Bei-o, Vinikali Chishi and Keyipiebeung.
