Awareness on consumer rights

As part of the week-long observance of National Consumers’ Day, from December 18 to 24, Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) along with several others associations and unions conducted consumer awareness related to food safety, backdoor appointment, illegal taxation at the check-gates and on highways, food security, public services delivery system, etc. 

A press release by NVCO press and media cell stated that, every year December 24 has been observed as national consumers day. 

During the observation week importance of consumer movement and the need to make the consumer aware of their rights and responsibilities, particularly in the rural areas were highlighted.  

NVCO also stated that it has received several complaints such as harassment on fund-raise, deficient services and defective goods, illegal collection of cash/taxes, unsafe food in the market. 

In this regard, the organisation has warned the market, particularly the sellers, as well as those indulging in backdoor appointment including the government departments. 

NVCO president, Kezhokhoto Savi appealed to every citizen/consumer to remain alert while buying goods and availing services. 

NVCO further assured the citizens that the organisation will continue to fight for the interest of consumers and will reach out the rights of the consumers to every nook and corner in the state.

NVCO also conducted awareness on “Public Services Delivery” on December 22, wherein NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi stated that every citizen is entitled to hassle-free public services and redressel of his grievances. 

Meanwhile, Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation wished the consumer/citizen a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
