Awareness on FAW

One day awareness campaign on Fall Army Worm (FAW) was conducted by KVK & District Agriculture Office Tuensang in collaboration with ATMA on June 7, at Noksen Town community hall, Tuensang. 

 A press release from KVK, Tuensang, senior scientist & head stated that the programme was chaired by ATM,  Tangekeiba Ongh while keynote address was delivered by subject matter specialist (plant protection), KVK Tuensang, Eliseni Tsopoe. 

As part of the campaign, poster (in Nagamese) on FAW was unveiled by the head GB Noksen town during the programme to be displayed in villages for easy identification of the pest in taking future course of action.

In technical session, thematic presentation on “FAW: An invasive pest and threat to the food security”, was given by Eliseni Tsopoe, where, she elaborated on the history of occurrence, Pest identification, lifecycle, scouting and management strategies for FAW. During the discussion session, Eliseni Tsopoe stated that at this juncture pest surveillance and scouting should be given utmost importance to tackle the pest in case of its outbreak. 

It was also stated that June 10-14, will be observed as mandatory period for mass scouting, collection through hand picking and destruction of the pest by every farmers in their respective village fields.  Village councils were asked to spear head the intervention and report the outcome to KVK office and district agriculture office by June 14, for future course of action. Altogether 18 farmers and VCCs from Longra, Kumpung, Yangpi, Noksen village & Noksen town participated in the campaign. District Agriculture Office, Tuensang also distributed Pheromone traps, Neem oil, Metarhizium anisopliae and Ememectin benzoate to the participants. 

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisers for conducting such programmes for their benefits.
