Patrick Bamford’s brilliant second-half hat-trick for Leeds United ended Aston Villa’s four-match winning start to the Premier League season, reports Marcelo Bielsa’s side looked dangerous early on, Bamford going close with a diving header and Rodrigo seeing his effort deflected wide. At the other end, Luke Ayling cleared a Jack Grealish shot off the line.

Grealish narrowly failed to score a stunning opener after the break, dribbling from inside his own half before his shot was saved by Illan Meslier.

On 55 minutes, Leeds swept down the left wing and after Rodrigo’s shot had been parried by Emiliano Martinez, Bamford was on hand to finish. The Leeds striker cracked a fine second into the top corner from outside the penalty area 12 minutes later and he claimed a superb hat-trick on 74 minutes with another calm finish into the far corner. Aston Villa stay second on 12 points while Leeds climb to third, two points behind.

Antonio stunner helps resolute West Ham draw with Man City

Michail Antonio scored a wonderful goal to earn his side a hard-earned point against Manchester City, who have now won once in four Premier League games.

Antonio’s spectacular acrobatic overhead volley from Vladimir Coufal’s cross put the Hammers ahead at London Stadium - and provided another twist in this unpredictable top-flight season.

But substitute Phil Foden equalised for City six minutes after coming on at the start of the second half, producing a really good turn to score following Joao Cancelo’s pass.

City dominated possession and sent on Kevin de Bruyne, who had missed the previous two games through injury, but could not find a winner and remain anchored in the bottom half of the table after five games. In a setback for the visitors, Sergio Aguero did not appear for the start of the second half because of an injury.

Man United frustrated by Chelsea in goalless draw

Manchester United remain winless at Old Trafford in the Premier League this season after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Chelsea on Saturday.

United, who had lost their opening two home games of the season, have seven points from five games and are in 15th place while Chelsea are in sixth place on nine points from six games.

Marcus Rashford produced the first real effort on goal in the 35th minute when he found himself in space on the right but his low drive was well saved by the out-stretched right leg of Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy.

Mendy was in action again, six minutes later, as he dived to push a Juan Mata snap shot wide of the post. Searching for a spark to bring the game alive, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani in the 58th minute.

Uruguayan Cavani, making his United debut, almost scored from his first touch with a clever flick from a Bruno Fernandes cross that zipped into the side-netting.

Chelsea offered little threat and it was United who went the closest to a winner, in the 90th minute with Mendy at full stretch to keep out a well-struck, curling effort from Rashford.
