A six-day bee-keeping training program, under Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY), was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kohima, in collaboration with the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad from March 15 to 20 at Phesama Village, Kohima.

A press release by KVK Kohima stated that in a keynote address, course in-charge, K. Michael Pienyu, encouraged the trainees to take up bee-keeping as a profession because it requires very less input and does not require a very high degree of technical expertise.

He also pointed out that bee keeping would flourish anywhere in the district because it has rich and vast natural vegetation with abundant flowering plants and ideal climatic conditions for bee foraging which in turn provides ample scopes for organic honey production.

The resource persons were DDAO Kohima, Bode Shuya and ATMA officials. During the technical sessions, the trainees were sensitized on both scientific and traditional methods of bee-keeping and their prospects. The inaugural program was chaired by technical officer training, Keviyieno Zhasa.
