Suspected militants triggered powerful bombs at two places in Manipur’s Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts on Saturday morning.

There were no reports of human casualties in both the blasts except damages to shops around where the bombs were triggered.

The blast in Imphal West was reported at Kwakeithel Bazar in front of a shop (LYS Sales Private Limited) that deals in cement and iron bars, at around 4.35 am.

Police suspect a remote control improvised explosive device (IED) was used for the blast.

The other blast at Kangpokpi was triggered in front of a grocery shop (Manoj Store) at Kangpokpi ward no. 5 at around 4 am.

Police suspect the blasts were related to monetary demands on the proprietors of the shops.

Even though police was yet to find a clue in the blast at Imphal West, they suspect a breakaway group of Kuki National Front (Nehlun) faction behind the blast at Kangpokpi Bazar.

Meanwhile, denouncing the explosion in a residential area, locals staged a protest rally on the streets at Kangpokpi district headquarters Saturday afternoon.

Around 300 people participated in the rally condemning the blast.

All shops and business establishments in the town downed their shutters as a mark of protest.
