Unidentified criminals on Saturday demanded Rs one crore ransom from the family members of a brick kiln owner, who was allegedly kidnapped from Deopani locality, Bokajan sub-division on December 14.

Family member of the kiln owner, Chandan Kumar Singh said that they received a ransom call from criminals for his safe release.

Chandan runs a chain of brick kilns in the subdivision and is believed to have been kidnapped while he was returning from a brick kiln at Deopani along the Golaghat-Karbi Anglong border.

His whereabouts and his vehicle Vitara Breeza still remained untraced. Police have launched a massive manhunt to trace Chandan but are yet to make any headway.

It may further be mentioned that the abductors are reportedly using Chandan’s mobile phone for negotiating his safe release.
