Cadres of PLA, MNPF attack AR outpost in Manipur

A gunfight between security forces and rebels was reported in Manipur’s Chandel district on Thursday morning. 

A joint statement of Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/ People Liberation Army (PLA) and Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) claimed that the attack was launched by a combined team of the two rebel groups resorting to armed struggle to regain Manipur’s lost freedom.

Police here said that an outpost of 19 AR near Phoilen village under Molcham police station of hill district of Chandel was attacked by suspected armed rebels around 5.30 am on Thursday.  

Troops of AR retaliated and the exchange of fire lasted for some minutes, the police said adding that there was no report of injuries on either side.

However, the joint statement of RPF’s assistance secretary (publicity) Bangkim and assistant publicity secretary Thomas Numai of MNPF claimed that injuries were inflicted to the troopers of Assam Rifles in the attack launched using light machine guns and grenade launchers. The statement said the attack was part of armed campaign against Indian occupational force by the two groups. RPF and MNPF have been joining hands in the armed campaign to regain Manipur lost freedom.
