Capacity building training on soft skills

One-day capacity building training programme on soft/professionalism skills development for officers and staff of chief engineer was held on June 25, organised by Water Resources Department (WRD), Kohima.

According to DIPR report, chief engineer, Er. Tsuktinungsang, in his key note address said that, with basic skills and achievements in career, everyone has come so far and accordingly should be responsible in whatever work as public officers. 

He said that besides academic or qualifications, one need to specialise or upgrade skills. He added that, upgrading skills do not only mean knowing exactly what work is all about but need to focus on how to avoid consequences and make it acceptable with the people working around.

He further encouraged the officers and staff to avail the opportunity to enhance the capabilities to get jobs done in cordial manner.

Youth Net, director, Lezo Putsure, as a resource person, highlighted that professional skills were career competencies that were not taught or acquired as part of the course work required to earn masters or PhD but it was a skill of leadership, mentoring, project management and conflict resolution and value added skills which were essential to any career. 

Lezo, further pointed that, almost every job required some public speaking and one should be capable of speaking clearly and presenting information effectively. To be presentable to anyone or in public, one needs to have articulation, confidence, creating presentation slides, poise, projection, social skills, receiving criticism and feedback, he added.

Vote of thanks was delivered by executive engineer, Er. Wapangnaro Imchen. Resource person for the training were Youth Net team Lezo Putsure director; Training manager, Nuneseno Chase; Training consultant, Ebibeni.
