Castor oil processing and demonstration unit was launched at directorate of Sericulture department office, Kohima, by commissioner and secretary, Orenpomo Kikon.

A press release by Sericulture department stated that, Orenpomo Kikon in his address, recalled that elders used to talk about the goodness of castor oil, while most were only aware of its benefits for skin and hair.

However, he pointed out that in addition to this, the castor oil was known for its anti-bacterial, medicinal and therapeutic properties and the by-product castor flake/cake was good organic fertilizer. Castor cake has insecticidal properties and is a natural pest repellent which makes it a good option for organic farming, he added.

It must be mentioned that the innovative idea for the processing-cum-demonstration unit could be made into reality through effort and initiative of deputy director, Alemkumzuk. He stated that to set up such unit does not require heavy investment, whereby he informed that interested entrepreneur may contact him during office hour to take up such venture. He also said that  there was good marketing opportunity for these products as they have potential in the local as well as global market.

Launched on December 3,1990. Nagaland Post is the first and highest circulated newspaper of Nagaland state. Nagaland Post is also the first newspaper in Nagaland to be published in multi-colour.
