The government has approved the construction of 56,368 houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-U) at 53rd Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee Meeting, the Finance Minister said.

It is suggested that these houses are designed under various verticals of the PMAY-U Mission. More than 73 Lakh houses have been established to date, and almost 43 Lakh houses have been constructed, reported.

With the ‘Housing for All’ vision, the focus has been on speeding up the design, completion and distribution of houses across the country. MoHUA is committed to providing all deserving recipients in Urban India with pucca houses by 2022, when the country celebrates 75 years of Independence.

Durga Shanker Mishra, secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), said, “Let’s get into the mode of implementation and execution.” He urged the States/UTs to ensure 100% completion and delivery of PMAY-U houses to all its eligible beneficiaries within the Mission period. The participating States/UTs were also directed to use the online mechanism (MIS) for proper implementation and monitoring of the Mission. In Lucknow, Ranchi, Rajkot, Agartala, Chennai and Indore, houses are being designed under the Light House Projects (LHPs).

The Ministry has launched an Online Registration Drive for Technograhis to encourage large-scale citizen engagement and build technological knowledge, on-site learning, discovering ideas for solutions, exploration and fostering creativity to promote these LHP sites as Live Labs for Technology Transfer to the sector.
