Union minister state for food processing industries Rameswar Teli on Thursday informed that the Centre has approved, in principle, construction of a mega food park in Manipur with estimated cost of Rs 80 crore.

The Union minister who arrived in Imphal today informed the Centre’s approval to state government’s proposal while addressing a one-day workshop on Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana at Hotel Imphal.

Teli said that the Mega Food Park project will receive Rs 50 crore as subsidies from the Centre.

“There is dearth of fund in his ministry,” the minister said and encouraged entrepreneurs to send their proposals to the government so as to avail the available funds.

State commerce and industries minister Th Bishwajit who attended the function urged the entrepreneurs to take advantage of the provisions of the scheme (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana).

He further urged entrepreneurs of the state not to concentrate their activities in the valley areas only but to expand their activities in the hill areas too.

“Entrepreneurs should not limit themselves to the valley districts, but spread their units to hills districts so that they can provide employment to the locals as well as build up the sense of national integration,” he said.

Encouraging entrepreneurship in the state, Biswajit reiterated that increase in the number of entrepreneurs can help solve the unemployment issue in the state.  The minister drew the attention of the visiting union minister, the state minister in setting up a small state development policy by the Central government.

He lauded the entrepreneurs of the state for their success without any financial assistance from both the government and the banks till now and encouraged them to link up with his department so that they can avail the schemes available for them.

Meanwhile, a one-minute silence was observed by the gathering as a mark of respect to the departed soul of former Union minister of external affairs  Sushma Swaraj.

Among others, the inaugural function of the workshop was attended by state chief secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, additional secretary of Union ministry of food processing industries Dr Rakesh Sarwal and director general of Indian Chamber of Commerce Dr Rajeev Singh.

The workshop was organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce with the support of the state department of textiles, commerce & industries and Union ministry of food processing industries.

The main objective of holding the workshop was to create awareness about the Kisan Sampada Yojana scheme among the entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs of the state and bankers attended the workshop. Several officials and resource persons spoke on various components of the scheme in the afternoon session of the workshop.
