Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has underscored the need for the Union government  to hold consultation with all stakeholders before taking any decision on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), 2016.

“We have discussed that there must be consultation before such an act is put in parliament,” he said on Thursday.

Reiterating that people from different states, political parties and organizations must be consulted on the Citizenship Amendment Bill, Sangma recalled that the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah during a separate meeting held with chief ministers at Guwahati, had assured that he would ensure the concerns of the states are addressed in a proper manner.

“I think that exercise he (Shah) is doing now. He has visited Mizoram the other day and met the CM and other organizations and obviously in Meghalaya, we intent to ensure that we move in that manner,” he added.
