CGU celebrates 204th Bhanu Jayanti

Chumukedima Gorkha Union (CGU) celebrated the 204th Bhanu Jayanti at Chumukedima Town Hall on July 13. The program was presided over by its president, B.B Sewa and was graced by chairman, State Co-operative Marketing & Consumers’ Federation LTD, Dr. M Chuba Ao as the speaker for the event. HSLC, HSSLC & Graduation level students were also felicitated and awarded at the event.
The program featured recitations of poetry, cultural songs, dances and band performance by the various artists of the Gorkhas of Chumukedima.  
Dr. M Chuba Ao, in his address, expressed delight at the energy and vigor with which Bhanu Jayanti is celebrated in Chumukedima every year. He stated that the contribution of Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya is one of the most momentous contributions to language and society and that his sense of responsibility towards the society shall always be engraved in history.
B.B Sewa, in his address, thanked everyone for being a part of the program and making the celebration a grand success. 
The program was followed by a cultural extravaganza presentation by the CGU. The only Gorkha Band of Dimapur, Chronicles Band was invited as the guest band for the event and around 20 Nepalese people of Chumukedima participated in the celebrations. All together, more than 400 Gorkha community members were present to observe the celebrations.
The event ended with the distribution of awards for various competitions and performance by the guest band for the event, The Chronicles Band. Earlier, in the afternoon the program began with the offering of scarves and garlands to the statue of Adi Kavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya by the Dr. M Chuba Ao and other dignitaries.
The event was attended by noteworthy personalities of Chumukedima Town which included EAC, Thejavizo Nakhro; Chumukedima Village Council chairman, Razavituo; head GB of Chumukedima Town and different cultural organizations within Chumukedima and schools students.
