Two recruit constables in Meghalaya were forced to drink urine of their three fellow trainees in Meghalaya by their training instructor, an official said Friday.

The incident took place Sunday in the 2nd Meghalaya Police Battalion at Goeragre in West Garo Hills district after the duo had scuffle during lunch at a langar with another recruit, a police official said.

Goeragre is around 300 Km west of Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya about 13 Km from Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.

Meghalaya police have taken a suo-moto action in the incident by replacing the training instructor with another.

“The training instructor allegedly asked the two recruit constables based on the complaint of the mess commander on the scuffle of the two recruits,” N Rajamarthandan, the commandant of 2nd Meghalaya police battalion, said.

The instructor had allegedly asked three recruits to urinate in the bottles and forced the two recruits to drink in presence of the 600 constables during the night roll call.

“This sort of punishment is unacceptable and he should have punished them by giving an extra drill punishment,” Rajamarthandan said.

Moreover, he said that he had also instituted an inquiry headed by the battalion commandant AK Sangma to probe into the entire sequence of the incident.

“The inquiry officer has collected information from all the five recruits on the incident. An explanation notice has been issued to the training instructor. if the allegation are proved right disciplinary action will be taken against him,” Rajamarthandan said.
