Rengma VDB association under Tseminyu block Kohima district has sought the attention of the state government and NPWD NH for immediate execution of construction work at the 2 lane road from Botsa – Wokha NH - 61 from Km 41 to Km 73 so as to avoid “mass public protest” against the department.
Rengma VDB Association under Tseminyu block Kohima district highlighted the pathetic condition of the road during its general meeting on Thursday at VDB conference hall Tseminyu town.
According to the association, this portion of NH-2 crossing the Rengma areas has been lying neglected for the past many years though it is the only road connecting Kohima–Wokha–Mokokchung – Tuensang dictricts.
A released jointly issued Rengma VDB association president Jwenbu Semp and genreal secretary Sisenlo Kent stated that due to the poor road condition, passengers who pass through this road often “curse the Rengmas as if the road belonged to the locality.”
The association also stated that Rengmas were equally responsible to appraise the government to take immediate action for the general interest of the public.
However, the association added that the people of this area had on many occasions contributed free will services by filling up potholes and clearing the road as and when mudslides occurred.
Further, the association also revealed that the work order has been issued to one Menakshi Company but that one Vascon Company has lodged a complain against Menakshi Company for which the matter was kept pending in the Supreme Court.
The association however questioned as to how long the case would go on as the work has been delayed by more than two years and for which the public have been suffering while crossing this area specially “pregnant women and serious patients”.
“The negligence in maintaining this section of road has had cost many lives as many serious patients had expired before they could reach the hospital,” stated the association.
