Children with special needs (CWSN) were given escort allowance under District Mission Authority (DMA), Kohima on Tuesday. The occasion was also marked by a mini-sports held at Rüzhükhrie GHSS Multi-purpose hall, Kohima.

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, deputy commissioner, Kohima Anoop Khinchi called upon the parents to bring their children to avail the facilities that would help them to lead a normal life.

Stating that there were lots of options and avenues available for any child that needed care such as physiotherapy which can held them lead a normal life,  Khinchi urged the parents to take the initiative and bring their children forward to avail such options.

He also reminded that special educators in the school will take care of their education while occupational therapist would help them to lead a normal life.

DC was of the view that CWSNs should be made independent so that they could earn their livelihood with many NGOs who can train them as per their needs and requirements. Towards this, he asked the parents to identify their talent and then train them to work in the field of their interest.

Making an observation that parents don’t allow their special children to socialize and mix with others, DC maintained that social participation would help them to learn and grow.  Kohima DC also gave away the escort allowances to the children with special needs present in the programme.

Out of the total 134 registered children in Kohima, 70 of them turned up to receive allowance. Parents or guardians are informed to come and collect the allowance at the district education office (DEO), Kohima near NBCC convention hall.
