FC Chizami United and Puliebadze Club Jotsoma won their respective match to reach the quarter-finals of the ongoing 25th Classic Cup played here at Kohima local ground on Tuesday.

In the first match, FC Chizami United overcame Challenger FC Meriema 5-3 via tie-breaker after the match ended in a goalless draw.

The match saw an exciting encounter between the two teams, but both failed to convert the opportunities into goals as the match ended in a goalless draw. During the penalty shootout, Meriema forward Kelhouneizo Usuo, who took the first penalty, missed his target which proved costly to the team as Lhipekhro Naro struck the winning goal for Chizami United to end the shootout 5-3.

Meanwhile, former champions Puliebadze Club Jotsoma overcame Haimei FC Tuensang 2-0 in the encounter.

During the match, Tuensang team made a better start of the two but lacked clinical finishing to find the net as Theingam Pheirim scored in the last minute of the first half for Jotsoma team to take the lead.

With eight minutes remaining in the match, Tuensang team protested against a referee decision for not awarding a penalty for a handball inside the area. The match was halted for more than half an hour following the protest but the match resumed again after much consultation with the team. However, in the 57th minute of the match, Menuosieto Sano scored the second goal from a loose ball to finish the game in favour of the Jotsoma team.
