Classic Cup: SZFC beat Nyenshen FC via tie-breaker

Sechü Zubza FC (SZFC)overcame two-time Loyem Memorial champions, Nyenshen FC Tuensang 6-5 via tie-breaker after the match ended in a 1-1 draw at the ongoing 25th Classic Cup 2019 played here at Kohima local ground on Thursday.

In a thrilling encounter between the two teams, Salu Kulim made the difference for Zubza team heading in the first goal in the 18th minute set up by Visalie Mezhu.  Tuensang team fought back and got back into the game when Mustape seized the ball after a blunder by Zubza's custodian Medophrezo Kezieo and slotted home in the 25th minute to make it 1-1.

Despite the numerous attempts in the second half, both teams failed to break the deadlock as the match ended 1-1. The real drama came when both teams converted all the spot kick which resulted in sudden death during the intense penalty shootout.

In the 6th spot kick, Nyenshen goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu managed to save Petevizo Kezieo kick, where Khakevi goal would secure a victory for Nyenshen FC, however the opponent keeper Medophrezo Kezieo made the correct guess to tap out Khakevi’s shot to bring the game back for Sechü Zubza team.

Hanglen Chang took the 7th penalty kick and scored, but midfielder Alomei brought the penalty contest to an end after his shot hit the crossbar during the sudden death as Nyenshen FC crushed out of the tournament.

In the second match, United Falcon Club, Medziphema defeated United XI 2-0. Kikrukhrielie Kuotsu scored the first goal in the 8th minute, while Komezo added the second goal in the extra time for United Falcon Club.

Up next, United Falcon Club will play against Sechü Zubza FC in the quarterfinal round on November 19.
