CNTC denounces Aug 23 ‘Senapati Declaration’

DIMAPUR, SEP 9 (NPN) | Publish Date: 9/9/2018 12:00:42 PM IST

While strongly urging Government of India to be serious in bringing an honourable solution to the protracted Naga political issue and insisting on inclusiveness, Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has slammed the Senapati Declaration of August 23, 2018. The declaration was jointly signed by Naga Hoho and United Naga Council.

In a statement issued by its media cell, the council took a serious view of the threat given in the declaration just when negotiations were going on with various stakeholders for arriving at a logical conclusion.

CNTC said such an “illogical and unwarranted threat” by certain section against the larger interest of all stakeholders was both “ highly condemnable and laughable”.

Further, it also condemned the usage of words in the declaration of calling other Nagas or groups such as- “unmandated”, “unauthorised”- and branding them as “anti-national”. CNTC said the ban on entry of those deemed as “anti-national” into Naga territory amounted to challenging the very existence of other Nagas.

CNTC also opined that if the joint declaration at Senapati was solely for the Nagas in Manipur, then it should have clearly mentioned it. CNTC also scoffed at some signatories whom it said did not have the mandate themselves but condemned others as being “unmandated” or “unauthorised”.

While demanding that status quo be maintained by all NPGs on the Naga political issue and praying for its solution at the earliest, CNTC also appealed to each and every sensible Naga to desist from issuing such “absurd and unreasonable” statements in the coming days.
