CNTC fears exodus of immigrants left out from NRC, issues alert

DIMAPUR, SEP 1 (NPN) | Publish Date: 9/1/2019 10:55:50 AM IST

With the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft having been published in Assam and more than 19 lakh individuals having failed to make it to the list, Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has expressed apprehension about arrival of these excluded people in the State.

In a statement, CNTC urged the State government to take preventive measures immediately because it felt that those immigrants, who did not made it into the final NRC list, would try to infiltrate into Nagaland and get a foothold.
The council also asked all gaon burahs and chairmen of village and colony councils to remain alert so that these illegal immigrants did not stay in their respective localities, especially in foothill areas along Assam-Nagaland border.
Without depending only on the authorities, CNTC said every citizen should keep vigil and be responsible.
Urging respective local authorities not to issue any documents to non-locals at this juncture, Central Nagaland Tribes Council further demanded strict checking of ILP by the State police at every entry point. Rights and future of the indigenous citizens must be protected by any means, it emphasised.
