Coal smuggling rampant in West Karbi Anglong

Police of Ulukhunchi police outpost in West Karbi Anglong district during a search operation in  the wee hours of Friday seized one coal-laden truck at Umlafer in West Karbi Anglong district. 

Police claimed the truck was carrying coal without any valid document and have arrested four persons, including the main accused, Durmison Ronghang and Jakve Teron (who claimed to be a member of KPLT). 

It was learnt that the consignments of coal was extracted through rat hole mining and was transported from Sabuda via Nelie and Jagiraod under  the nose of the police and forest officials. 

Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong district police chief stated that an alert has been sounded in all police stations and police out posts on the illegal transportation of coal from Karbi Hills to other parts of the country.
