Commemoration of 75th anniv of Battle of Kohima

The 75th Anniversary of the World War II Battle of Kohima (BoK) will be commemorated with a year-long celebration starting April 4, the day the battle started in 1944.  According to an official bulletin, the year-long celebration will kick start with an inaugural event on April 4, 2019 followed by events including Scholarship Award, Capacity Building Training, BoK Marathon, Literary Fest, Film Festival, Vintage Car Rally, World War II Trail Walk, Cross Cultural event, Parade/Military Tattoo, Music and Food Festival, Airshow and Light & Sound Show, etc.

A meeting of the organizing committee of the year-long event comprising of members from the state government, Army and NGOs was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Temjen Toy at the chief secretary’s conference hall. After detailed discussions, the committee finalised the programme for the main inaugural event, which is slated for April 4, 2019. The event will be held at RCEMPA Jotsoma and attended by delegates from Japan led by its ambassador to India, representatives from the United Kingdom, United States Army, family members of the veterans of the BoK, Naga veterans of WW II besides officials of the State government, Assam Rifles, Students and public from nearby villages.
