With a mission to serve as a “local and international ecosystem” of global connections, development and integrated trade services under a common platform, the Naga International Trade Centres Association (NITCA) was launched at Hotel Ura here on Thursday.
It is aimed at channelizing projects, investments and products through appropriate processes.
NITCA will focus and function in all Naga territories irrespective of the division created by international borders and will be governed and managed by NITCA boards.
Speaking at the inaugural program, irrigation & flood control department advisor Namri Nchang expressed joy at learning of the importance of a trade and business association platform and remarked that NITCA had the right vision and strategy that would benefit Nagas both in India and Myanmar.
Regretting that Nagas were divided on many fronts, Nchang expressed optimism that there was still a chance for everyone to come together for economic progress of the region.
He added that a platform like NITCA was the need of the hour as business opportunities in the region could bring about better economic development.
Nchang was confident that the association would be the right platform for creating awareness on economic growth and help build a strong relationship with the rest of the world, while also assisting local educated unemployed youth.
Stressing on the need for a trade platform like NITCA, he said it could have many things to offer to the government, business and local communities as they wrestle with issues of modern day trade. The advisor urged the association to work hard in the field of economic development to improve the livelihood of Nagas.
Explaining the roadmap of the NITCA, its secretary Neikedolie Hiekha said the association would focus on sustainability and informed the gathering that an industrial exposure trip would be organised to China in August this year. He added that an exposure trip to Vietnam too would be organised in which team members will interact with the Vietnamese business community.
It is expected that the launch of NITCA will enable Naga businesses, business owners and entrepreneurs to share professional experience and expertise on a common platform, encourage and create innovation incubators, organise national and international business conferences and seminars, besides helping establish trade networks domestically and globally and support growth of local enterprise through investments.
The association also envisages organizing international industrial tours, international trade fairs, develop skills and increase employability of local youth.
NITCA will work on promoting, marketing and formulating plans, policies and drawing roadmap in tourism, education, technology, mining, manufacturing, finance, power & energy, petroleum & gas, agriculture, handicrafts & textiles, construction & property development, research & development, innovation and international trade & development sectors, besides promoting investments.
