The Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) of Kidima village constructed a community forest nursery under the FDA program wherein saplings of locally available tree species will be raised.
A press release from JFMC Kidima stated that, some of the saplings were planted during the current year in the project site in Jhum areas. The committee on monitoring & evaluation under the chairmanship of Senthil Kumar and ex-officio member Dr. Kenei visited the project sites with Rongsenlemla Imchen DFO Kohima and local functionaries on
July 5.
The committee members appreciated the efforts of the JFMC and the village council for their efforts in raising the nursery and plantation.
Both the officers gave technical advices to the JFMC with regard to sustainable maintenance of nurseries and the plantation. DFO Kohima said that altogether 15 JFMCs have raised nurseries in their respective areas in Kohima, Chiephobozou and Tseminyu ranges under Kohima division during the current year and plantations were done at the project site sourcing the saplings from the JFMC nurseries.
She also said that the main objective of raising community nurseries was to instil a sense of responsibility towards the environment, decrease the seedling demand pressure on range nurseries and also to bank time for the community.
During the tour, the committee members visited the community nursery, current year plantation site and previous year maintenance site.
