Conrad inaugurates Shillong Heritage Walk

Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad K Sangma on Friday inaugurated the Shillong Heritage Walk. The walk started from Wards Lake to Raj Bhawan and culminated at Pinewood Hotel.

Sangma said that Shillong has many historic locations and the idea of the Shillong Heritage Walk was to make it more structured and organized so the tourists enjoy the heritage of Shillong.

Taking to twitter, Sangma said “A refreshing start to my day with the #ShillongHeritageWalk from Ward’s Lake to Pinewood. #Meghalaya has such rich history and I’m happy that @meghtourism is taking due initiative in this. Such wonderful stories about our State’s history.”

The Shillong Heritage Walk, which would be opened to public and tourists from next week, would take one through a three-hour guided walk of the British history of the city to acquaint one through with the city’s rich colonial heritage and history through its buildings, architecture and parks.

The heritage sites include Earle Sanatorium, Khyndailad, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Bhahmo Samaj, the Presbyterian Church, the Legislative Council Building, Shillong Club, Secretariat Hills, the Centenary Monument, the PWD Quartets, All Saints Church, Raj Bhawan, Pine Wood Hotel and Wards Lake.
