Consumer awareness at Aboi town

Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Mon organised a consumer awareness programme at Chen Paan Aboi on July 19 with Asst Controller LM & CP, Mon, Y. Rilise Sangtam as resource person.

According to DIPR, in his speech, Y. Relise said that consumer protection Act was enacted in 1986 with the objective of providing better protection of consumer’s interest. He therefore said that the consumer has rights provided under the Act and that the consumer has Right to safety. He also said that consumer should be protected against the product that hampers their safety, against any product which is hazardous to their health- mental, physical or many of the other factors. The consumer also has the right to choose the products and make a decision, he added.
Sangtam also said that the aggrieved consumer can approach any of the forum or Commission accordingly:- District forum – if the goods or services and compensation asked for does not exceed Rs.20,000,00, State Commission:- if the goods or services and compensation asked for is  more than  Rs.20,000,00 but less than Rs. 1 crore and national commission:- if the goods or services and compensation asked for is more than Rs 1 crore. 
Sangtam also encouraged the people to form Voluntary Consumer Organisation (VCO) at Aboi for better and easy promoting of the consumer protecting activities. 
EAC Aboi, Lithrila Sangtam extended gratitude to the department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, Mon for conducting such programme at Aboi for the first time and by educating the consumer of their rights. She called upon the people to know their rights as a citizen and urged the people to cooperate with the department.
Konyak Union Aboi, vice president; head DB Aboi; head GB Aboi; ATSU also spoke at the programme which was chaired by i nspector LMCP, Mon, Er. Nganyei Konyak.
