Chakhesang Public Organisation’s (CPO) Committee on 2-Lane Road has condemned harassment of contractors for taxation/donation by cadres of different national groups in Phek district.

While advising all such cadres to immediately stop harassing contractors for taxation or forced donation, the committee also urged the contractors to bring to its notice if they faced such problem while executing work in the district.

It further appealed to the affected villages and towns in particular and public in general, besides the local administration, to remain vigilant and check any potential threat to the mega project. Referring to an incident in which two staff of a construction company were kidnapped and then released in exchange for ransom recently, thereby creating fear psychosis in the district, the committee it outright.

Such unabated activities by national workers or anti-social elements would jeopardise the ongoing project in the district and inevitably cause suffering to the general public for many years to come, the committee warned in a statement issued by its member secretary Wepe Mekrisuh and convener Vaprumu Demo.

Recalling that it was formed by CPO to act as a watchdog and oversee proper and timely execution of the mega project and ensure quality work, the committee explained that it was also its bounden duty to create congenial atmosphere for safety and well-being of the contractors and their labourers at the site.
