ANCSU strongly condemned chief secretary Temjen Toy’s statement and asked how he could say that protesters had dispersed peacefully when “innocent” students were lathi-charged, assaulted and got injured. Stating that such statements added fuel to fire and were misleading, the union leaders added that these deserved “strong condemnation”.

Speaking to the media during the press conference, KROS College Students’ Council president Viketuonuo Kikhi said the “physical and mental harassment” caused to the peaceful student protesters deserved strong condemnation.

She alleged that the students were beaten up and chased like cats and dogs, following which many were hurt physically and mentally, though they were peacefully demonstrating for their genuine reasons. Baptist College Students’ Union vice-president Thungpang Chang also condemned the “brutality” of the police personnel on the students. He also criticised the chief secretary for his statement.
