CSIR-CIMAP conduct awareness camp for tribal farmers in Dmu

Awareness programme on improved cultivation and processing technology of aromatic crops for income enhancement of tribal farmers was conducted by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)-Central Institute of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) in collaboration with Toka MPCS Ltd, at Lhothavi village, Dimapur on January 7. 

A press release by Toka MPCS Ltd stated that, keynote speaker, consultant at CSIR-CIMAP, Dr. Israr Ali spoke about the potential of certain medicinal and aromatic plants that can be successfully grown and cultivated in the area as well as Nagaland. He elucidated on the importance of tapping into the agricultural sector to create a sustained livelihood which would not only enhance one’s income but also contribute to the overall economy of the state. He further encouraged the attendees to work towards finding and establishing market linkages for their products. A feedback and query session was conducted which saw concerned individuals sharing their views and putting forward questions related to their field of cultivation. CIMAP team was headed by Dr. Israr Ali, Mohan Kumar Yadav and Vipin Kumar with Toka MPCS Ltd as the state collaborator. A demonstration was conducted at the field site of lemongrass plantation and a visit to distillation unit set up through the assistance of CIMAP with Toka MPCS Ltd as implementing agency.
Earlier, brief introduction was given by CSIR-CIMAP technical officer, Manoj Kumar Yadav. CSIR-Central Institute of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants popularly known as CIMAP is a frontier plant research laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
