While lauding the district administration and DTF for prompt decision to reopen all categories of shops and business establishments in Dimapur from August 17, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) also reminded the state government on the repeated requests for reopening of Hong Kong Market, New Market, Hazi Park Market and Millennium Building Market.

A press release by Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Akashe Zhimomi and general secretary, Sanjay Sethi noted that the DTF Dimapur has also recommended opening of these markets but so far the state government is yet to take action. In this regard, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce & Industry once again appeals the government to take immediate steps to alleviate the plight of the business community of these four markets. Pointing out that losses incurred due to closure of these markets since March 24 was running into crores of rupees, the DCCI stated that distributors, wholesalers, retailers and their families were facing untold hardships due to the closure.
While reopening of shops with extended shopping hours would go a long way in providing relief to customers as well as help to avoid rush and overcrowding, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry however reminded all shops and business establishments to strictly adhere to laid down SOPs. It reminded all shops to ensure social distancing, insist on wearing mask (both customers and shopkeepers) as well as providing hand sanitisers at their respective shops.
Strict action including fine and sealing of shops would be taken against shopkeepers violating the SOP guidelines, stated the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
