Defending champs Loyola HSS crash out

Hreli Albert scored a hat-trick as Christ King Higher Secondary School, Kohima defeated defending champions Loyola Higher Secondary School, Jakhama 3-1 at IG Stadium Kohima, on Thursday. 

Albert with his fine solo effort put Christ King Higher Secondary School in the lead in 9th minute. But five minutes later, Seyielezo Pfüsenuo scored the equaliser in the 14th minute for Loyola HSS.

However eight minutes later, Albert gave the team the lead again scoring two goals in the 22nd and 24th minute to make it 3-1 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half, Loyola fought back and put pressure to find the equaliser but Christ King school managed to hold on the lead till the final whistle to send Loyola School home. 

Albert with his hat-trick became the 6th hat-trick scorer of the tournament.

Christ King HSS will now take on neighbouring school Don Bosco HSS in the next round on July 9.

Earlier in the first match, St. Mary’s Cathedral Higher Secondary School registered a thumping 5-0 victory over Baptist Higher Secondary Tseminyu.  St. Mary’s striker Tepevil scored five goals against the opponent during the encounter. His goals came in the 3rd, 31st, 33rd, 42 and 61st minute. 

With his goal scoring feat, he became the 5th hat-trick scorer and also the highest scorer in the tournament.

St. Mary’s Cathedral will play against Chandmari HSS in the next round on July 9.
