Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla Friday mooted the idea of developing Manipur’s border district Tengnoupal as an international tourist destination place.

Addressing a reception function during her first maiden visit to the district bordering Myanmar, the governor observed that the district can be developed into one of the most favorite place for tourists considering its geographical location.

The place can be developed into a beautiful place by preserving the natural greenery, she said.

“We are to preserve the natural heritage and beauty for our coming generation. We don’t want to leave the place as garbage of plastic and bottle. We want to leave a beautiful place, a place with flowers, trees and greeneries to the coming generation,” she said.

Pointing out roads and communication were the key issue for development, the governor said that she has been discussing the matter with the Union concerned ministry since she assumed office as Governor of the state two years ago. Considering the importance of Imphal-Moreh highways as a Trans Asia Highway to connect with Southeast Asian countries, she had suggested to the home ministry designating highway patrol services along this highway and other national highways in the state.

Meanwhile, during the visit of the governor, various civil society organizations submitted a memorandum, related with the pending infrastructure development in the district which was carved out from Chandel district.

Earlier, on his arrival at the district headquarters, the Governor was accorded a warm welcome.
