District horticulture officer (DHO) Phek and his team paid a visit to Zhavame village on July 25, which had earlier been declared as “vegetable village.”

A press release by Zhavame Village Council chairman Vivotso Domeh stated that, Horticulture department has been taking up keen interest on Agri and Horti produces in Zhavame village. The DHO and his team inspected the varieties of Agri and Horti produces in the fields which were yet to be plucked for the lack of market due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Although the pandemic has caused huge loss to the farmers, the visit of the DHO and his team has motivated the farmers, stated the release.
The release also stated that, on an approximate estimation based on previous year’s records, the Zhavame village general income from selling cabbage, potatoes and other Horti produces of about one core fifty lakhs was at risk due to COVID-19 lockdown. Villagers expressed gratefulness to DHO team for being with the villagers during such a situation.
