As part of the Dimapur Municipal Council’s (DMC’s) “A Better Dimapur” initiative, a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) was signed between DMC and Dimapur Bongs at DMC office here on Thursday.

As per the MoU, Dimapur Bongs has adopted Kalibari Road for a period of one year. During the period, the Dimapur Bongs will take up various beautification and cleanliness drives along road stretch. Firstly, Dimapur Bongs will carry out a plantation drive and paint the sides of the road. They also plan to make the stretch a dust free road. It may be noted that under ‘A Better Dimapur’, DMC aspires to achieve a “Cleaner, Greener & a Healthy Dimapur with community participation.”

The idea behind ‘A Better Dimapur’ is to inculcate civic sense among the citizens to transform the city for the better.

DMC administrator Moa Sangtam while signing the MoU, lauded Dimapur Bongs for being the first non-Naga community group to join the initiative.

Even after the expiry of the MoU, the Dimapur Bongs can continue to carry out their activities if they want, Moa said.  He said that very soon, the Muslim Council and Bengali community will also join the initiative.

Through this effort, Moa said, the DMC wanted to set an example for all the districts and neighbouring states on maintaining cleanliness. Calling for more active community participation, Moa said, “We as citizens should contribute in making the city clean instead of waiting for government to do the work”.

On October 2, a MoU will also be signed between DMC and Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, where the latter will adopt the stretch of the road from Clock Tower to Holy Cross junction.
