Dimapur lift inaugural G.Rio trophy

Dimapur beat Peren by five wickets to lift the inaugural trophy of the late G. Rio Memorial U-19 (Boys) Inter-District Tournament at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima here on Tuesday. The tournament was organised by Nagaland Cricket Association. 

Electing to bat first, after winning the toss, Peren were bundled out for 75 runs in 26.2 overs with tight bowling from Dimapur bowlers. Arjun took three wickets while Renben N Odyuo and Rahul claimed two wickets each. Skipper of Peren, Parbez was the top scorer, who made 32 runs. In reply, led by Sujal, who remained not out on 45 runs, Dimapur overhauled the target in 12 overs for the loss of five wickets. For Peren, Rajen took four wickets. 
In individual awards, Mokokchung district won the late G.Rio Spirit of Cricket Award; Rokovoto Nyekha of Peren was named player of the tournament; Mughavi of Zunheboto as best batsman; best bowler award was bagged by Raja Swarnkar of Dimapur and Yungandhar Singh also from Dimapur won the best wicket keeper award. 
Eight districts divided into two groups took part in the tournament. Group-A consisted of Mokokchung, Dimapur, Kohima and Tuensang and from Group-B, the teams were, Peren, Wokha, Zunheboto and Mon.
A press release from honorary secretary of Nagaland Cricket Association, Hyunilo Anilo Khing stated that the closing and prize distribution ceremony was graced by advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, who is also son of late G. Rio, as special guest. 
In his speech, he encouraged the players and asked them to take advantage of the cricket facilities. Further, Zhaleo congratulated the winning team and conveyed his best wishes to the Nagaland Cricket Association. 
Meanwhile, Nagaland Cricket Association thanked all the participating districts, the special guest and the cricket community of Nagaland for the success of the tournament.
