Diphu Medical College begins academic session

The educational session of Diphu Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) has officially begun the first batch of 84 MBBS students; despite having a capacity of 100 students.

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s Executive Member for health and family welfare, Khonsing Rongpi in a chat with the first batch of students told them that they will be provided with a good academic atmosphere in the college. Rongpi extended his thanks to chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang for establishing the medical college.

The Diphu Medical College is the 7th medical unit of the state. The college has been recognized by the Medical Council of India and affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. The construction started on January 19, 2011 but in 2017, actual thrust was given by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the budget was enhanced from Rs 156.55 crore to Rs 209 crore.

The Brahmaputra Infrastructures is involved in the construction of Assam Hills Medical College and Research Institute and modification of the DMCH is currently underway.
