District level workshop on coconut plantation

Department of Horticulture (DoH) organized a district level workshop on aspects and prospects of coconut production and post harvest technology/ value addition at SHN, Green Park here on Friday. 

At the workshop, resource person, NU SASRD prof. Dr. Chandan Maite gave a power point presentation on the varieties of coconut, production of quality seedlings in nursery, selection of good quality seedling, field preparation and planting, pests  and diseases in coconut. 

Maite said that there are varieties of coconut and therefore one should be able to find out which type was suitable to be planted so that they bear good quality fruit. Maite also stated that Coconut Development Board (CDB) and DoH have done the survey in the existing five district namely Dimapur, Mokokchung, Wokha, Peren particularly Jalukie site and Mon where coconut has been suitable. 

Highlights of the programme included interactive session where doubts and queries were clarified. 

More than 50 coconut farmers attended the programme. 

The programme was chaired by District Horticulture Officer (DHO) Temsu Longkumer.
