District level youth parliaments held in Longleng, Phek

District level youth parliament debate and parliamentary quiz competitions were held in Longleng and Phek on September 21 in their respective areas. 

GHSS Longleng: District level youth parliament debate and parliamentary quiz competition was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) auditorium with students from both government and private schools. 

The day long programme witnessed debate on “Lack of governance is responsible for slow growth and development in Nagaland” and “Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland” (RIIN) a blessing or a curse. 

During the debate, the speakers of the motion defended the government by saying that government was initiating different schemes and committed to provide all round development especially at the rural areas and looking into the problems of the masses. The speakers also defended the ruling government saying that several schemes such as MGNREGE, IAY and many more were provided for the development of the rural areas. 

Speakers from the opposition section came down heavily on the motion moved by the ruling bench. Opposition party also blasted the ruling party, mentioning that present government is governed by the less bothered elected representatives with no transparency at all level. 

In the debate competition, Shamthung P. Phom (opposition party) got first position while Tetmei Phom (motion party) was declared second position. The winners of the competition will participate in the forthcoming state level youth parliament debate and parliamentary quiz competition which will be held in the second week of October this year. 

In the debate competition, Nyulen Phom was the moderator while ArenImsong was the quiz master. Earlier, the programme was chaired by Pauphen Phom, invocation by Bongaiphom, words of encouragement was delivered by Rabenthung vice principal GHSS Longleng, special number presented by class IX students and vote of thanks was proposed by Asang Jamir. The panel of judges for the debate were Naro, Phamphen Phom and Phanglung Phom.

GHSS Phek: District level youth parliament debate and parliamentary quiz competition for Phek district was conducted at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Pfutsero on September 21. 

A press release from district coordinator stated that 26 students participated in the competition. In debate, Ruvehu Dasai of GHSS Pfutsero was adjusted as the winner, while Menute Kapfo and Vekutulu Khamo from GHSS Pfutsero stood second and third position respectively.

Quiz competition was won by trio Vetsulu Thuluo, Vezo Rhakho from CMHSS Pfutsero and Kupeto Lomi from GHSS Pfutsero.

The principal GHSS Pfutsero Vechikhoyi Lohe speaking on the occasion appreciated the department of Parliamentary Affairs for organising such programme in the district to provide leadership platform and good exposure to students.  He further challenged the students to think big and aim high in life and work hard to achieve them. Lohe told the students that one day they will lead the society in one way or another and reminded that leadership was not easily build. 

District coordinator of the event Kelhikha Kenye delivered keynote address. The programme was led by Khwete-u Kapfo with Vekuzo Swuro as quiz master.
