District Mental Health Program (DMHP) Kohima organized three mental health camps in Viswema, Chiphoubozou and Tseminyu Community Health Centres (CHCs) under Kohima district on December 19, 2018, January 31 and February 8 respectively.

A press release from DMHP Kohima psychiatric social worker, Veronica Nriame stated that the camps were conducted to help early detection of mental health problems and to treat patients within these communities.

Cases which were detected were common mental disorders, addiction disorders, and child psychiatry disorders.  General cases were also detected and examined during the health camps. The DMHP team offered free assessments and distributed medicines to all patients treated during the camp.

Cases which needed further psychiatric examination were referred for follow-up procedures at DMHP attached to Naga Hospital, Kohima.

The free mental health camps benefitted people in the community and also enabled them to recognize issues and consider early treatment during initial phases of their problems.
