Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has urged the opposition Congress not to politicise the management of the COVID-19 situation
“We should avoid any kind of politics from this kind of a situation and there need not be any political statements made in this regard,” Sangma said.
“Our government is very transparent and we are always open to suggestions to ensure the overall system is improved,” he said brushing aside allegations from the Congress that the government has failed to handle the COVID-19 situation in the state.
The Chief Minister however urged the opposition Congress to write to him if they have any constructive suggestions so that the government can take it positively.
“The battle against COVID-19 pandemic is not just the government or the opposition but the society as a whole. We all have to fight this battle together,” Sangma reiterated.
Voicing surprise at the opposition Congress allegation, the Chief Minister wondered and said, “In all the three meetings chaired by the Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, they (Congress) have appreciated the initiatives taken by the government in handling the pandemic. I don’t know why the statements have come out at a later stage.”
“There was ample opportunity in the meeting to say it. But in the meeting they said something and said something else outside . I have no comment on what they have to say outside (the meeting) but in the meeting under the chairmanship of the Speaker, the opposition had a positive response and they had also made positive suggestions,” Sangma said.
